Brisbanen Suomiseura on Australian vanhin Suomi-seura. Seuran toiminnan vakiinnuttua seuran johtokunta päätti ostaa tontin Mount Gravatista joka sijaitsee Brisbanen kaupungin eteläpuolella. Brisbanen eteläpuoli oli vuosina 1958-60 Australiaan muuttaneiden suomalaisen suosiossa. Koska alueella asui suurin osa suomalaisyhteisöstä sopivan tontin osto alueelta oli selviö. Talkoovoimin rakennettu Suomitalo valmistui vuonna 1959 j.
